Stamford, Lincolnshire
Stamford is generally regarded as England’s finest stone-built town. In it’s heyday it was a famous coaching stop on the Great North Road from England to Scotland and a rich market town. It was bypassed by the railways, thus preserving its Georgian architecture, and making it the first English town to be granted preservation status.
Stamford is also John Bangay’s home town.
